TVPPA members can now register for the association’s 75th Annual Conference. The two-day conference will be held on August 31-September 1 at the Griffin Gate Marriott Golf Resort and Spa in Lexington, Ky.
Conference programming will highlight industry changes and progress. The event will also serve as a celebration of TVPPA’s rich 75-year history of bringing members together to collaborate, engage, share best practices and learn from industry leaders.
Pre-conference activities kick off on Monday morning, August 30, with the annual golf tournament on the spectacular 18-hole course just feet from the entrance of the Griffin Gate Marriot Golf Resort & Spa.
Monday’s other planned events include a derby-hat-making party for spouses; a meeting of TVPPA’s board of directors; a welcome reception at the Mansion at Griffin Gate followed by carriage rides; and the DIC Customer Appreciation Dinner.
The proposed conference agenda includes a one-of-a-kind experience from storyteller Brett Culp who will share the story of TVPPA and its role in supporting LPCs and community-owned power in the Tennessee Valley. TVPPA Board Chairman and CEO of Huntsville Utilities, Wes Kelley, will share the results of a survey of TVPPA’s member system general managers and a vision for the association’s future.
Keynote speaker, J.P.Dinnell will share leadership principles from the best-selling book Extreme Ownership: How U.S. Navy Seals Lead and Win. Dinnell is a now a leadership instructor and speaker with Echelon Front, where he serves as Director of Tactical Training Programs. J.P. spent nearly a decade in the SEAL Teams with three combat deployments. He worked closely with SEAL Officers Jocko Willink, his Task Unit Commander, and Leif Babin, and was the driving force on many of the daring combat operations Jocko and Leif wrote about in Extreme Ownership. Upon his return, J.P. again worked directly for Jocko as a training instructor at Naval Special Warfare Group One Training Detachment, where he orchestrated realistic and challenging special operations urban combat and close quarters combat training to better prepare SEAL units for the real-world battlefield. In addition to Dinnel’s keynote address, this year’s conference will feature a general session focused on navigating and adapting to the ever-changing nature of the power distribution industry.
Breakout sessions will address topics including how to increase revenue; creating a culture of safety; and technological advances in the utility industry. Plus, TVPPA members can look forward to a few fun surprises and the opportunity to enjoy the in-person camaraderie put on hold over the last year or more.
