In 2007, TVPPA supported the electric power distributors in the Tennessee Valley in the launch of Seven States Power Corporation, a non-profit membership corporation for the purpose of supporting TVA’s generation assets. The original Seven States Power mission ended in 2013 when it sold a power plant to TVA, and in 2018 the business changed course.

Under the leadership of President Doug Peters and Vice President Betsey Kirk McCall, who set Seven States Power on a structured and focused course, the Seven States team worked together, with the support of TVPPA resources, to deliver robust product offerings including solar generation, EV charging infrastructure, load management systems, and middle mile fiber.

Now, three years later, the Seven States Power Corporation Board of Directors voted to launch the company as an independent, self-sustaining business under the leadership of newly appointed President & CEO Betsey Kirk McCall and with a dedicated, full-time staff. This change will enable Seven States Power to compete for larger projects for the benefit of its member-owners.

Along with McCall, former TVPPA staff members Clint Wilson and Steve Noe will become full-time employees of Seven States Power on April 1, 2021. Wilson will serve as senior vice president of engineering and market innovation; Noe as vice president, will drive sustainability and energy resilience projects.

“We are proud of the role TVPPA played in supporting the growth of Seven States Power,” said Doug Peters, TVPPA president and CEO. “With the flexibility options that have opened up for local power distributors to self-generate using renewable energy resources under TVA’s long-term partnership agreement, Seven States is poised for exponential growth. In order to further their growth and pursue larger projects, it became clear that Seven States needed its staff to be fully dedicated to their mission. We know Betsey and her team will continue to lead the way in bringing innovative energy solutions to local power companies in the Valley and wish them continued success.”
